In Volume 1, Act 1, Usagi and Mamoru first meet after Usagi (heading home) crumples up an english exam paper she had gotten back that day. She had received a 30. Tossing the crumpled paper over her shoulders, it hits a man standing behind her, who's wearing a tuxedo and sunglasses.

"That hurt, you lumphead," the man says. "Are you trying to give me a lumphead too?"

She turns around and yells, "These are not lumps! They're called odango! Odango!"

"Thirty points..." he says. He throws the test at her. "Study harder, odango head."

"Mind your own business!" she yells. She turns and walks away.

She looks back and thinks to herself, "What's with him, wearing a tuxedo in broad daylight? Flashy guy..."

Meanwhile, the man stands in front of a store, staring inside. "A large jewelry store, eh?" he thinks. "This might be where it is. The Mystical Silver Crystal."

This man, is revealed to be Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen who desperately seeking the Mystical Silver Crystal in order to save this 'Princess'. Later, after Usagi becomes Sailor Moon and is battling the evil monster who has taken over the jewelery store, Tuxedo Kamen is hiding there and encourages Sailor Moon to act NOW, and with that she throws her Moon tiara, crying out 'Moon frisbee' and defeats the monster. Tuxedo Kamen disappears, telling Sailor Moon he shall remember this, leaving Sailor Moon lovestruck.

The next time Usagi/Sailor Moon and Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen meet is when Ami becomes Sailor Mercury. Sailor Moon is about to be attacked by a monster, when:

Two arms hold Usagi from behind. "Now! Kick!"

"What?" She thrusts her leg up. "Sailor Moon Kick!!" She knocks the monster to the ground, and falls back into the arms of Tuxedo Kamen.

"There was a monster right in front of you," he says. "Be careful."

"Tuxedo Kamen!?" Their faces come close. "No way! He's here again!"

He lowers her to the ground. "Hurry, save your friends. You can do it."

And with that he disappears.

In Act 3, we meet Rei/Sailor Mars and also learn that Queen Beryl, an evil woman, is also after the Mystical Silver Crystal so she can rule the universe. She worships an evil gaseous entity named 'Metallia' who wants the crystal to take over the universe.

In this pursuit, Beryl has sent her minions and monsters to gather energy for Metallia as she must have this to grow stroner. Jadeite is the name of one of her generals who is in charge of getting rid of Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury.

Usagi and Luna have been having a conversation, when Luna stops talking. Usagi asks Luna to say something, when Mamoru shows up and repeats her 'Yeah Luna, speak up'

"You again?", Usagi asks.

"You're so noisy, odango atama," the man says. "So we meet again."

"But here!?"

"I always take the bus from school," he says.

"No way!" says Usagi. "With the junior high students?"

"I'm obviously in high school," he says, holding out his student ID card.

Usagi reads it. "Chiba Mamoru, Moto Azabu High School, junior class." She asks him, "If you take this bus, then do you know what's going on with it?"

"Yes, it's the route. Many strange things happen."

Usagi stares at Mamoru. "That profile... Like... Tuxedo Kamen..." She turns her head. "No, no, what am I thinking..."

Mamoru looks at Usagi and imagines a mask over her eyes. "Fighter for justice..."

"What!?" says Usagi.

"Er, oh! Nothing..." says Mamoru. He gets on the bus and looks back out the window once he is seated.

In this same act, Usagi, Rei and Ami defeat Jadeite who's been kidnapping people on a school bus. Usagi has just transformed into a stewardess and gotten onto the bus to save Rei, who has also gone onto the bus. As Usagi gets on, the bus rises up, Luna grabs onto her but loses her grip and falls into Tuxedo Kamen's grasp. He also tries to get to the bus, but it disappears before he can make it. Tuxedo Kamen had seen Usagi transform and asks who she is.

We see a very brave Usgai here, though in the anime, she cries and whines forever! The passengers are saved, and in the process, Rei is revealed to be Sailor Mars.

We're now upto Act 4, a key episode titled 'The Masked Ball/Masquerade'. Usagi, Ami, and Rei go to the dinner party for Princess D who has a magnificent jewel. Usagi transforms herself into a princess in a white dress and the three girls split up in order to investigate. A lady spills a drink onto Usagi's dress and Usagi goes to clean it up, but before she leaves, a handkerchief falls from her. Tuxedo Kamen, who has also been there, sees it fall from her, and reads what is written on it: "Grade 8, Class 1. Tsukino Usagi."

Usagi looks around. "I can't find the bathroom," she says. "Luna... Ami-chan, Rei-chan... Where did they go? I turned into a princess, but... I'm alone. This is so boring."

"A beautiful princess," the man says as he approaches Usagi. "Let's dance."

"Tuxedo Kamen!?" Usagi says. "No way! This has to be a dream." They start to dance. "Oh, I've wanted to be with you," she says.

"Me too," says Tuxedo Kamen.

But just then, Luna calls and Tuxedo Kamen disappears. Usagi thinks to herself, "Oooh...I wish I could stay with him..."

Usagi then finds Princess D, who has been replaced by an evil minion of Queen Beryl. Princess D is taking the exquisite jewel treasure to the balcony. Usagi runs to stop her, but the evil minion pushes Usagi away and over the balcony. Usagi is hanging on dangerously to the edge of the balcony, and then loses her grip and begins to fall.

Usagi sticks out her arm as she plummets to the ground. A gloved hand grabs it, holding her. Usagi looks up. "Tuxedo Kamen!?"

Rei then calls Usagi through the communicator and tells her of the Princess' possesion. As Usagi listens to this, Tuxedo Kamen begins to lose his grip. Usagi uses her pen, which then begins to grow.

It shoots up, and an umbrella opens out of it. Usagi falls, carrying Tuxedo Kamen over the balcony. They slowly drift to the ground.

"Today, you saved me," Tuxedo Kamen says. "I thank you." He runs off into the moonlight.

"No..." says Usagi, fingering her brooch. "It's always you who saves me."

With that Usagi transforms and notices her old Tiara does not show up on her head since it was used to bind Jadeite as Rei used her fire to kill him. Suddenly, a new tiara shows up on Usagi's head and she says: "My body's growing warm. Like I feel with Tuxedo Kamen..."

As Usagi, Rei and Amy then try to defeat the new general, Nephrite, Rei learns her fire power does not work on him. They are facing defeat when Tuxedo Kamen appears on the balcony ledge behind Usagi. "Sailor Moon!" he says. "You must extinguish the darkness! You need a powerful light!"

Luna then tells Usagi to use her new Tiara and that defeats the evil Princess D.

Later, after the party has quieted down, and Rei and Ami have realized that the treasure Princess D has is not the silver crystal, they ask where Usagi is. We, the audience, are taken to a very important scene between her and Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen.

"I'm exhausted," says Usagi, walking by a table. "Where's some juice..." She picks up a glass and drinks it. "*hick* Oh, that's good..." She stumbles back, and bumps into someone. "Oh, sorry..." She falls asleep against the man. Tuxedo Kamen picks her up and carries her out. "Ohhh...."

"You're just who I wanted to see..."

He places a pillow beside a pillar on the balcony outside, and rests her against it. He leans forward, and gently touches his lips to hers. He kisses her deeply.

"Oh... This feeling... So familiar... Sometime... Somewhere... So soft and warm... It's happened before... Those sweet lips...", he thinks.

"Get away from Usagi-chan!" calls Luna. "Tuxedo Kamen! What are you doing? Why do you always show up where we are?"

He stands up. "I, too, am searching for the Mystical Silver Crystal."

Luna steps forward. "Are you our enemy," she says, "or our friend?"

"Well," he says, "if we're both after the same thing... perhaps I'm your enemy." He looks at Luna.

With that, we are taken to Act 5. That next morning, Luna is lecturing Usagi about being careful around Tuxedo Kamen because they don't know who he really is. At the mention of his name:

"Tuxedo Kamen..." Usagi thinks as she walks. "What's wrong with me... Every time I hear his name, my heart flutters. He's so familiar... It's like I knew him a long time ago..."

In this Act, we meet Makoto/Mako-chan/Sailor Jupiter. Motoki, the boy who works at the game center, has been possessed by the ghost bride and is now also sucking energy from Mako-chan. Mamoru is walking by, reading a book, and upon seeing Makoto's energy being sucked away, runs away, alarmed. Next thing we see is Usagi turning over in her bed, and then opening her eyes to see Tuxedo Kamen crouching in her open window. "What... Is this a dream? Tuxedo Kamen!?"

Luna opens her eyes, and sees Usagi gone. She looks out the window, and sees her running out of the house after Tuxedo Kamen. "Usagi-chan!?" Luna picks up Usagi's communicator. "Ami-chan! Rei-chan! Wake up! Usagi-chan's gone off with Tuxedo Kamen..."

Usagi runs, following the man in front of her. "Where are we going?" she wonders. "Tuxedo Kamen... Where are you taking me?"

He takes her to Makoto and Motoki and the ghost bride. Makoto becomes Jupiter and using her flower hurricane, and lightning, kills Nephrite. She then falls to her knees and Usagi rushes to help her.

Luna looks up and sees Tuxedo Kamen looking on. He glances at her, and runs off into the night.

"Tuxedo Kamen..." she thinks. "He brought Usagi-chan here... That man..."

"Perhaps I'm your enemy." she recalls him telling her the night before.

Now that the soldiers have been gathered, Luna gives Usagi a rod with a moon crescent at the end of it and tells her that since the 4 soldiers are together, Usagi, as their leader, must defend the Mystical Silver Crystal and the Moon Princess.
