In France, homosexual themes are censored. Uranus is disguised as a man to protect her identity as a senshi. Meanwhile, Neptune helps her disguise by pretending to be 'his' girlfriend. It is currently unknown as to whether the relationsip is censored in Italy, although other gender and sexuality issues were heavily edited (i.e. the Starlights were the Three Lights' identical twin sisters-- Gah! It's like Battle of the Planets!).

In the case of the English dubs airing on Cartoon Network, Michiru becomes Michelle and Haruka becomes Amara (not Alex, as was previously rumored). The couple's closeness is explained by the fact that they are 'cousins'.
