"Even in my dreams I never imagined something like this could happen,"
thinks Usagi. "Mars, and even Mercury, taken away in an instant, right
before my eyes. The Black Moon... Who are they!? What are they after!?"
She turns around. "Who's there?"
Chibi-Usa's black ball bounces outside her door. Usagi stares at it. Water gushes out of the ball's eyes. "Don't cry, lady," says the ball. "Don't cry, lady." Usagi jumps up, raising her pillow over her head. "What!? It talked!?" "Don't smash Luna-P!!" "Chibi-Usa!?" says Usagi. Chibi-Usa stands by the door. Usagi looks at the ball. "So, Luna-P is... this!?" she says. "I bet it got its name from Luna, right?" Chibi-Usa stands silently. She shows Usagi her puppet. "Here," she says. "You can borrow this. Just for a little while." "What!?" says Usagi. "A Tuxedo Kamen doll!? How did you get this!?" "I got it from Mamo-chan." "Ma- Mamo-chan?!" she yells. "Since when do you call him that!? He never gave me anything like this! How cruel, Mamo-chan, just giving one to Chibi-Usa!" "What..." says Chibi-Usa. "Since you were crying, I thought you weren't feeling well..." She leans against the wall, hanging her head. "What?" thinks Usagi. "Could she have been... trying to cheer me up...?" |

This is the Chibi Usa we first meet and grow to love in the manga.
Chibi Usa is not nearly annoying here in the original story line as they
make her to be in the anime versions. She is truly very cute and very,
very sweet. She wants others to be happy around her. She is a very brave
girl, coming from the future, back in time to save her mother, and running
away from the evil Black Moon family. She is no ordinary girl and shows
her true worth as a carrier of the blood of the moon family!
Chibi Usa, better known as the Pink Spore to many anime and dub watchers, has won many hearts and many enemies. She is one of the most complex characters in Sailor Moon and the one who gets abused the most. When Naoko created the role of Usagi's and Mamoru's daughter, it is apparent she wanted someone cute, and in every way a kid. So much of a kid that she would behave the way a normal 4-10 year old would behave around an older sister-like figure (which is what Usagi is like) and who would have her older brother/male figures wrapped around her finger. Chibi Usa's Age and Maturity Chibi Usa is said to be 901 years old in the manga, but it unclear whether she lived for 901 years considering that whole story line of the "great frozen sleep" - she looks about 8 years old though and behaves just like that. At many times though, she has displayed a wisdom and maturity beyond her years as in the Sailor Moon R Movie she is on the roof of the Tsukino house with Luna and Artemis, and the cats are worried over the lives of the Senshi on the meteor. Chibi Usa says they will be ok "Sailor Moon will save them all, and protect them because she is a like a mother to us all." Intelligence The girl is also very resourceful and smart, with quick the ability to think very quickly on her feet. For instance, remember how she made the Luna P ball into a sleeping milk potion that knocked Rei's Grandfather out? Or how she escaped from people by juping off a balcony and making her Luna P ball into a backpack which then opened into a parachute. The girl's got brains! (Must be from Mamoru's side ;) ) She also knows how to maintain herself around Bossy Usagi and has schemed to bring Usagi and Mamoru closer after a fight they had. On Being Chibi For Chib Usa, being "chibi" (small/a child) is the bane of her existence. Throughout the manga, she speaks of wanting to be an adult, of being more ladylike and beautiful like her mother; of having a graceful body like Usagi. But to be a grown up, she must face trials and overcome them, and her greatest trial was being sent back in time. The Greatest Trial For Chibi Usa, knowing that she had somehow caused the disapperance of the Silver Imperium Crystal, knowing that she was to blame for the incapacity of her mother, the one woman she idolized and loved dearly, - thinking that she was to blame for the whole Black Moon catastrophe is enough to drive her insane with guilt and fear. But does she run away and feel sorry for herself? No. This brave little girl decides that there is one person in the universe who can make things right again, Sailor Moon. And to find her, she travels all alone across time and space to find her mother from the past. Chibi Usa first seems like such a brat! And rightfully so! Many of the things she does in the anime are not endearing, however the manga shows her in a much better light, showing how sweet and tender she is to Usagi - trying to sheer her up, and being kind to Hotaru. We can also see how kind she is in the SM SuperS movie where she befriends Peruru and helps him become a better person.
But Chibi Usa's brattiness can be redeemed.
Just think about it - place yourself in her shoes:
Things just aren't the way they should be. You are stressed and don't know what to do....are you going to act like a Princess? Are you going to be happy and put up with laziness and selfishness (as Usagi often behaves in the anime)? You'd most likely act out under all this stress and not be a very sweet person. The same is true of any Child between 4 and 10. They are SUCH whiny, selfish BRATS! Want everything their way and will rant and rave and throw temper tantrums till you're ready to scream! In comparison to the way most children behave, the way Chibi Usa behaved was a god-send! Plus, that's only the anime. In the manga, she's a HECK of a lot better.
